چکیده

We develop diverse routing schemes for dealing with multiple, possibly correlated, failures. While disjoint path protection can effectively deal with isolated single link failures, recovering from multiple failures is not guaranteed. In particular, events such as natural disasters or intentional attacks can lead to multiple correlated failures, for which recovery mechanisms are not well understood. We take a probabilistic view of network failures where multiple failure events can occur simultaneously, and develop algorithms for finding diverse routes with minimum joint failure probability. Moreover, we develop a novel Probabilistic Shared Risk Link Group (PSRLG) framework for modeling correlated failures. In this context, we formulate the problem of finding two paths with minimum joint failure probability as an Integer Non-Linear Program (INLP), and develop approximations and linear relaxations that can find nearly optimal solutions in most cases.

Energy-Aware Probabilistic Epidemic Forwarding Method in Heterogeneous Delay Tolerant Networks

Due to the increasing use of wireless communications, infrastructure-less networks such as Delay Tolerant Networks (DTNs) should be highly considered. DTN is most suitable where there is an intermittent connection between communicating nodes such as wireless mobile ad hoc network nodes. In general, a message sending node in DTN copies the message and transmits it to nodes which it encounters. A...

Graph transformation approaches for diverse routing in shared risk resource group (SRRG) failures

Failure resilience is a desired feature of the Internet. Most traditional restoration architectures assume single-failure assumption, which is not adequate in present day WDM optical networks. Multiple link failure models, in the form of Shared-Risk Link Groups (SRLG’s) and Shared Risk Node Groups (SRNG’s) are becoming critical in survivable optical network design. We classify both of these for...

ARRIVE: Algorithm for Robust Routing in Volatile Environments

Wireless sensor networks for environmental monitoring and distributed control will be deployed on a large scale in the near future. Due to the low per-node cost, these networks are expected to be both large and dense. However, because of the limited computation, storage, and power available to each node, conventional ad-hoc routing techniques are not feasible in this domain, and more novel rout...

Efficiency of a multi-objective imperialist competitive algorithm: A bi-objective location-routing-inventory problem with probabilistic routes

An integrated model considers all parameters and elements of different deficiencies in one problem. This paper presents a new integrated model of a supply chain that simultaneously considers facility location, vehicle routing and inventory control problems as well as their interactions in one problem, called location-routing-inventory (LRI) problem. This model also considers stochastic demands ...

A survey on probabilistic broadcast schemes for wireless ad hoc networks

Broadcast or flooding is a dissemination technique of paramount importance in wireless ad hoc networks. The broadcast scheme is widely used within routing protocols by a wide range of wireless ad hoc networks such as mobile ad hoc networks, vehicular ad hoc networks, and wireless sensor networks, and used to spread emergency messages in critical scenarios after a disaster scenario and/or an acc...
